Difference Between Waterproof Zippers and Water-Repellent Zippers

Waterproof Zipper
The waterproof zipper is designed to prevent water from penetrating even under heavy rain or immersion. These zippers are coated with materials like PU or TPU films that completely cover the zipper teeth and are tightly sealed. They’re commonly used in outdoor gear, tents, wetsuits, rain jackets, marine use products and other products that require high-level water protection.
Water-Repellent Zipper
The water-repellent zipper offers basic protection against splashes or light rain. It also features a surface coating (usually PU) that resists water to some extent but is not completely sealed, so it cannot withstand prolonged exposure to water. These zippers are often seen in urban jackets, sportswear, or backpacks.
